**NEW Program** Foundation Skills & Employment Academy: Comprehensive Services

The Foundation Skills and Employment Academy is a comprehensive 9-month training program for individuals who are blind or have low vision who want to build independent living skills and prepare for employment success. Offered by VisionLink Solutions, LLC, this intensive academy meets 5 days per week for 6 hours per day and provides structured, hands-on instruction in daily living skills, assistive technology, communication, workplace readiness, and other essential blindness rehabilitation services. The program is designed to help participants increase independence, strengthen job readiness, and develop the practical skills needed for success at home, in the community, and in the workplace.

Foundations Skills Academy

Foundation Skills

 The Foundation Skills Program helps individuals who are blind or have low vision build essential daily living skills for greater independence and confidence. Training may include cooking, cleaning, laundry, organization, personal finance, communication, and adjustment-to-blindness techniques. Instruction is individualized, hands-on, and focused on real-life application in home and community settings. 

BrailleQuest

The BrailleQuest Program helps individuals who are blind or have low vision develop Braille reading and writing skills for greater independence, literacy, and access to information. Instruction may include alphabet mastery, contractions, punctuation, numbers, formatting, slate and stylus use, Perkins Brailler skills, tactile discrimination, and reading fluency. Training is individualized, hands-on, and focused on building functional Braille skills for daily life, education, and employment.

Assistive Technology

The Assistive Technology Program helps individuals who are blind or have low vision learn to use technology more effectively for communication, access, productivity, and independence. Instruction may include screen readers, screen magnification, smartphones, tablets, computers, accessible apps, email, internet use, and adaptive devices. Training is individualized, hands-on, and focused on building practical technology skills for daily living, education, and employment.

Professional Careers Academy

Assistive Technology Specialist Program

The Assistive Technology Specialist Program prepares individuals to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to provide assistive technology support for people who are blind or have low vision. Instruction may include assessment support, device setup, accessibility features, screen readers, screen magnification, adaptive software, troubleshooting, training techniques, and documentation practices. Training is individualized, hands-on, and focused on building professional skills for work in assistive technology and rehabilitation settings while helping prepare the customer for CATIS certification under Category 3 requirements through ACVREP.

Microsoft Mastery Program

The Microsoft Mastery Program helps individuals who are blind or have low vision build strong skills in Microsoft Office applications for academic, personal, and workplace success. Instruction may include Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other essential Microsoft tools, with a focus on accessibility, productivity, document creation, data management, communication, and professional use. Training is individualized, hands-on, and designed to strengthen advanced computer skills while preparing the customer for the Microsoft Expert Certification Test.

 

 

 

Clerical/Receptionist Program

The Clerical/Receptionist Program helps individuals who are blind or have low vision build the administrative, communication, and organizational skills needed for office support and front-desk roles. Instruction may include phone and email communication, scheduling, customer service, data entry, document management, filing systems, office technology, workplace professionalism, and task organization. Training is individualized, hands-on, and focused on developing practical skills for success in clerical and receptionist positions.

 

 

 

 

CollegeConnect

The CollegeConnect Program helps students who are blind or have low vision build the skills, strategies, and support systems needed for success in postsecondary education. Instruction may include accessibility tools, assistive technology, time management, organization, self-advocacy, communication with disability services, study skills, and navigating academic expectations. Training is individualized, hands-on, and focused on helping students increase independence, access course materials, and succeed in the college environment.

 

 

 

Pathways to Business Ownership

The Pathways to Business Ownership Program helps individuals who are blind or have low vision build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to explore and pursue small business ownership. Instruction may include business planning, customer service, budgeting, recordkeeping, marketing, communication, problem-solving, and understanding the responsibilities of operating a business. Training is individualized, hands-on, and focused on preparing customers for greater independence and success in self-employment and business leadership.

Career Readiness Transition

The Career Readiness Transition Program helps individuals who are blind or have low vision build the skills, confidence, and readiness needed to pursue employment and career advancement. Instruction may include career exploration, workplace readiness, communication, job-seeking skills, self-advocacy, professionalism, time management, and goal setting. Training is individualized, hands-on, and focused on preparing customers for greater success in competitive, integrated employment.
